" I will praise the name of God with a song, I will magnify him with thanksgiving" Psalm 69:30
It is often through music that we, as a parish family, lift our praises to God for all His mighty works in our lives, and give Him thanks for His inestimatable love. So lyric and melody enfold many aspects of our parish life, from worship through the very informal times we share together.
St. Edward's has received the gift of this ministry through many talented individuals including, most especially, our Director of Music whose reservoir of knowledge regarding hymns and energetic devotion to each service that she helps plan knows no bounds. Her leadership inspires those who serve so faithfully in the Senior Choir, and acts as a beacon to newcomers as well as they consider adding their voices to this ministry. She is joined by a "small but mighty" group of parishoners who meet each Sunday from September through May after Holy Eucharist Rite II to practice for next Sunday's service. In addition, our adult choir particpates in several special services such as those given during the Christmas season and Holy Week.
Our other choir, the Junior Choir, is comprised of elementary school youth who are ably directed by a very gifted parishoner who selects music that is both inspirational as well as fun for them to perform.
This Junior Choir performs at several services throughout the church year including major feasts and holidays. In addition to our regular choirs, St. Edward's has several musical ensembles which meet together throughout the year for fun and fellowship. They, too, often contribute to special serviees as well as provide music for many of our gatherings.
Members of the ensembles also perform at our contemporary praise service held the last Sunday of each month at 9:15 A.M. No matter what musical "talent" parishoners have, there are many, many ways in which they can contribute to our various activities, and new members are always welcome in our music ministries. "He who sings, prays twice." - St. Augustine
