" Teaching them to obey everything that I have commanded you. And remember, I am with you always, to the end of the age." Matthew 28:20
At St. Edward's, a variety of opportunities for Christian Education are scheduled throughout the week, and during the various seasons of the liturgical calendar year. The purpose of these opportunities is to continue to minister to our Baptismal Covenant.
Each Sunday morning, from September through May, Sunday School is conducted betwen 9:15 A.M. and concluding at 10:00 A.M. Each class of Sunday School is led by adult volunteers from the parish who work in unison to produce an overall experience of Bible based learning. The preschool and elementary levels use the Episcopal Children's Curriculum.
The middle and high school level classes utilize the Episcopal Youth Curriculum. Adult Forum is conducted at the same time as the Sunday School classes. This group is led by parishoners and the topics vary in nature. Participants gather in order to enrich their faith and understanding of Episcopal traditions through discussion and fellowship. One topic recently elected by this group was that of prayer in everday life. There are currently two opportunities for Adult Bible study.
One group gathers every Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. This group utilizes the Rector as the facilitator and uses both the inductive and deductive method of study. Recently, the group examined the various books of the Old Testament. The second Bible study group gathers each Saturday at 7:30 A.M. This Men's Bible Study topics are determined by the group's interest.
There are generally five intergenerational Christian education events planned which coincide with the beginning of each of the major liturical seasons. These events are led by the Rector and take place during the Sunday School time in lieu of regular classes. So, no matter what the age group or planned Christian educational activity, folks are always waiting at the door to begin.
They know that they are loved and valued as fellow sojourners in our quest to grow in spiritual maturity in Christ. We are all teachers, and we are all students with each age group learning from one another. In sum, then, Christian Education is an integral part of life at St. Edward's, from preschoolers to adults. A rich blend of opportunities to learn and teach are available to all who so desire, and the experiences shared in our programs always seem to bring us closer together as a parish family, no matter what our ages.
